Luna Matto

 Biography

Luna Putzulu, better known as her stage name Luna Matto,  is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She is also a member of The Polyphonic SpreeLuna Matto was formed in Boston, Massachusetts originally as an all-girl line-up, including violinist Eylem Basaldi, a native of Turkey, who received a scholarship to Boston Conservatory when she was a teenager.

In 2007, Luna began commuting to Dallas, TX for recording and rehearsal with The Polyphonic Spree. Due to Polyphonic's tour schedule, Luna moved from Boston to Dallas permanently. When touring slowed down in 2009, Luna formed a band and recorded her first EP, Happy Isn't Real. The album features appearances from drummer McKenzie Smith (Midlake), vibes and piano player Nick Groesch (The Polyphonic Spree, Calhoun), viola and violin player Rick Nelson (The Twilight Singers, The Polyphonic Spree).

Luna Matto performs live as a 5-7 piece band that sometimes includes trumpet, flute, and clarinet. Luna blends comedy into her live performances which creates an unusual experience for the audience as they are taken on a roller coaster between between tears and bursts of laughter. "Sometimes when I am singing "Fanzini," she has said. "I still get lost in the pain of the song. When it's over, and I realize no one has left the audience and I can see a few grown men crying, I feel obligated to make them laugh. I almost feel guilty and ashamed of letting an entire audience into my madness. Therefore I usually end my song by asking the audience if my gynecologist has showed up. It's true, I put his name on the door every time, but he never shows up."

Luna has also been to known to hand out pictures of her parents to audience member prior to her performances. At a 2011 performance at
The Kessler in Dallas, TX, she invited Headliner Dan Dyer onstage to "spoon", claiming she got to be "big spoon".

Luna has an 11 year old daughter who is in the Dallas all-girl band, We're Not Dudes.
They have opened up for Sarah Jaffe and The Polyphonic Spree.

Luna is currently working on her second album in New Orleans.
